Foam plastic lunch boxes are more environmentally friendly and healthy than paper lunch boxes? Yesterday, the Green Packaging Branch of the Chinese Society For Environmental Sciences cried foul for the disposable foam plastic lunch box. They said, "Disposable foam plastic lunch boxes are more environmentally friendly than some so-called 'environmentally friendly tableware' from production to use and recycling

Li Peisheng, executive vice president of the Green Packaging Branch of the Chinese Society For Environmental Sciences, has a clear view. He said that the reason for reaching the completely opposite conclusion from before is because the understanding of environmentally friendly packaging in the green packaging academia has changed recently. Li Peisheng explained that evaluating whether tableware is environmentally friendly must comprehensively examine the entire lifecycle of tableware production, use, and recycling.
According to the organization's inspection of the entire process from production to recycling, it was found that pulp molded lunch boxes emit toxic gases and wastewater during the production process, resulting in greater environmental pollution than disposable foam plastic lunch boxes. Moreover, some 'environmentally friendly lunch boxes' that claim to be naturally degradable do not actually degrade well and have serious quality issues.
He said that in the past, people only saw that environmentally friendly tableware can degrade in the natural environment after use, and they believed that paper lunch boxes and other tableware were more environmentally friendly than disposable foam plastic lunch boxes. In fact, from the entire process of production, use, recycling and consumption of lunch boxes, disposable foam plastic lunch boxes had less impact on the environment than other disposable environmentally friendly tableware such as paper lunch boxes.
Li Peisheng pointed out that according to the latest green packaging standards, paper lunch boxes can only be rated as A-grade environmentally friendly products due to environmental pollution from raw materials to production processes, while disposable foam plastic lunch boxes that solve the recycling problem can be rated as more environmentally friendly AA grade products.
