China is the hometown of bamboo, leading the world in terms of bamboo species, reserves, technological level, and trade.

The Global Development High Level Dialogue held during the 14th BRICS Leaders' Meeting this year released the "List of Results of the Global Development High Level Dialogue", which clearly stated: "China will jointly launch the 'Bamboo for Plastic' initiative with the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization to reduce plastic pollution and address climate change." Using small bamboo to support the global 'plastic reduction for plastic' cause and provide a 'bamboo solution' for environmental protection and sustainability, Received widespread attention from the international community.
From ancient times to the present, bamboo has been loved by many people. It grows quickly and can be harvested in 3 to 5 years. Before being harvested, it can be used for food and bamboo shoot processing, and after being harvested, it can be fixed and variable, used in various fields such as architecture, furniture, textiles, papermaking, and transportation.
"The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to actively and steadily promote carbon peak carbon neutrality. Bamboo forest has the ecological function of absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, and is a green and renewable carbon capture and storage composite system." Wang Ge, a researcher of the International Center for Bamboo and Rattan, has been committed to the processing and utilization of bamboo fiber. In his opinion, Bamboo is an efficient and inexpensive carbon storage material. Promoting the use of bamboo products, the carbon fixed in it is basically no longer released, which is of great significance for achieving the dual carbon goal
In recent years, with the support of relevant policies from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, researchers from the International Bamboo and Rattan Center have gone deep into the frontline to help enterprises optimize processes and improve automated production lines. They have jointly prepared environmentally safe bamboo fiber lunch boxes and applied them to industrial production, helping enterprises transform and develop, and serving local green transformation needs.
Chen Xiaoyi, a doctoral student at the International Bamboo and Rattan Center, participated in the development of bamboo fiber lunch boxes throughout the entire process. She said, "This type of bamboo fiber lunch box not only has high production efficiency, but also excellent comprehensive performance, providing an ideal choice for replacing plastic products
So, do bamboo fiber environmentally friendly lunch boxes require biodegradation after being discarded? Regarding this, Chen Fuming, an associate researcher at the International Bamboo and Rattan Center, said, "In response to the contradiction between the need for strength and water and oil resistance when using plant fiber container materials, as well as the need for rapid degradation after disposal, we have greatly improved the degradation efficiency of bamboo fibers using micro/nano bubble technology
Not only small lunch boxes, there are also many application scenarios for bamboo, including the "China Business Card" - China High Speed Railway.
The indomitable nature of bamboo has been praised since ancient times, as it firmly adheres to the green mountains and never relaxes, rooted in broken rocks. Researchers from the International Bamboo and Rattan Center have found that bamboo has high strength, toughness, and damping properties due to its unique and multi-scale exquisite structure.
Can bamboo structures be biomimetically applied to the bottom plates of vehicle carriages on high-speed rail, subway, light rail, and other transportation tracks? Dr. Han Shanyu, a doctoral student at the International Bamboo and Rattan Center, recalled that by chance, our team went to Fujian Heqichang Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. to conduct experiments and saw that the company's bamboo and wood container bottom plates, which were fully produced in the workshop, were sold abroad. Everyone began to have ideas.
It is not easy to apply bamboo to the bottom plate of high-speed railway carriages. It needs to simultaneously solve challenges such as lightweight, high-strength, wear-resistant, flame-retardant, shock absorption, vibration suppression, and fatigue resistance. The comprehensive performance also needs to meet the requirements of dozens of high-speed railway indicators, and the cost is controllable, with market competitiveness.
After nearly 3 years of continuous research and development, the research team of the International Bamboo and Rattan Center and Fujian and Qichang Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. jointly developed a type of rail transit vehicle base plate, which has passed relevant on-board testing and third-party testing. The relevant scientific research results have also received the attention of well-known international journals in the field of materials.
From eco-friendly lunch boxes to high-speed rail soleplates, small bamboo can also have significant carbon reduction benefits. Fu Jinhe, Director of the Host Country Affairs Department of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization, stated that as a responsible major country, China will fully tap into the value of bamboo and contribute to global green development, from scientific research achievements to corporate practices, to national actions and global initiatives.
